Istanbul's taxis are metered — the flag starts around 65 TRY plus roughly 44 TRY per kilometre — so a run to Taksim or Sultanahmet realistically lands at about 1,800–2,100 TRY (broadly €50–65) once the O-7 motorway and bridge tolls are added. The cheapest way in is the M11 metro at roughly 35 TRY: ride to Gayrettepe, change to the M2 line for Taksim, about 50–65 minutes all in, while the direct HAVAIST bus to Taksim runs nearer 400 TRY. By road the centre is roughly 45–60 minutes off-peak on the Northern Marmara Motorway (O-7) but can stretch past 75–90 in heavy traffic, whereas a private VIP fare is agreed in advance whatever the traffic. Late arrivals should note that transit thins out after midnight and IST's rank is notorious for drivers dodging the meter or quoting inflated flat fares.
